About Us
I spent my best childhood years on a farm in Scotts Mills, Oregon (population 386) . It
was a quaint little town with friendly folk, rolling hills of strawberries and pole beans and
of course, complete with the local swimming hole. We weren't poor but we provided for
ourselves where we could. We had a large garden, raised chickens, rabbits and other
farm animals. It was hard work but these were the best years of my life!
When I was a teenager we moved to the city. I kept within me the farming mentality with a
great sense of confidence in my own abilities, the spirit of self-reliance and fond
memories of the simpler life. Being a single parent of two, with little to no support from
anyone else, wasn't easy, and I had to be self-sufficient ! I had ingenuity and became
resourceful and I lived the philosophy:
If I can't make it, fake it or substitute for it, we
will have to do without.
My children may not have had the best of what the world had to
offer: name brands, brand new (right off the store shelves or racks), all the new toys and
gadgets, etc.,
but they didn't do without. And if they did , we probably didn't need it
anyways.

Back then, I didn't have a choice but to be self sufficient with every opportunity. Today, I
choose to be self sufficient !
And you can too.

Over the years, my collection of notes grew  with noted failures,  improvements needed
and successes for next time.  I have boxes and boxes, and file folders full of notes,
recipes, ideas, diagrams, instructions, etc. Binders full of information about animals,
farm equipment, farming, pioneer methods of making tools and other necessities, etc. It
has become a mountain of information and a wealth of knowledge.

Well, that's how this all got started. Now I can to share it all with you in
Today's
Self-sufficiency Food & Resource Book. Click on "Food & Resource Book" for more
information or to buy a copy for yourself or for a loved one.

Come back often for more help and information. Whether you choose to be on a farm or
have a patio garden, or to just make food and gifts for family members, I thank you for
visiting and wish you great success.
